What a boo-tiful day
Contrary to the lovely weather we had this past weekend, Halloween dawned gray, rainy and cold today. I suppose that is appropriate for the day, but it’s not funny trick-or-treating in it. I remember nights of my childhood past that were like this, and our trips gathering candy in the neighbourhood were extremely quick. But as I’m now handing out the candy rather than asking for it now, I suppose it’s all right because I’ll be snug in my house, opening the door only for the cute little ones in their little pumpkin outfits. I will be waiting for Nov. 1st, as that’s the day that I make out like a bandit with all the candies, buying them at the store for 50-60% what they cost the day before. J That’ll keep me sugar-buzzing till Christmas for sure.
Happy Halloween everyone! Be safe, but have fun.

Got the DM tix
Got my Depeche Mode tickets in the mail yesterday, which is very cool. I’m quite excited to go see them, as their new album is reminiscent of their old stuff. Last time I saw them was great fun. It turned into a big sing-a-long with Dave Gahan leading the way. I don’t anticipate it being quite the sing-a-long this time, as their new album is quite dark & depressing, but it should still be pretty good.

Crossing to the Dark Side
Can’t believe I actually did this, but I did it on the weekend. I actually picked Eric Lindros for one of my fantasy hockey teams. Now while most of you might not think this is a big deal, it is. I cannot stand him! I feel he’s been a spoiled child for his entire hockey career. First he doesn’t want to play for the junior team that was going to draft him (the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds), but whines that he wants to play in Oshawa. So he did. Next he whines that he doesn’t want to play for the NHL team that would’ve drafted him (the Quebec Nordiques), so he got traded to Philadelphia. The best part of that though was that after moving to Colorado, the Nordiques won two Stanley Cups! Serves him right. J I realize most of this behaviour is due to the fact that his father’s also his agent, but still, he should be grateful that he’s playing a game for a living, and making a ton of money doing it.
Having said all that, I am pleased to see that Eric has actually matured a bit in the last couple of years, perhaps realizing his career’s mortality with all the concussions he suffered recently. Especially because of the fact his younger brother had to retire from the NHL due to concussions. Eric seems to have matured and seems to be a little more grateful that: a) he’s healthy enough to continue playing in the NHL, and b) he’s making a living playing a game he loves. Plus he’s also playing for his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs.
All of this has contributed to the fact that this year he is playing better than he has in quite some time. He seems rejuvenated playing in Toronto, and is enjoying himself again on the ice. And since he seems to have regained some of that magic and is scoring again, I had to add him to my fantasy team. I’m just getting killed by the dude in first place, so I had to take some drastic action and put Lindros on my team. Seems silly to you, I know, but to me it was a difficult decision. Here’s to hoping he stays healthy and gets me a ton of points.

Shut out
Boy, there sure are tons of INXS fans here in Toronto! I got completely shut out for tickets on Saturday, and they even added a second show. I guess that’s what happens when an arena band plays at a small theatre. I see from their tour dates that INXS is playing mostly smaller theatres, which I find a bit strange. Given that this is their first tour in almost 10 years, I can understand the reticence of not wanting to play in arenas, but as their new lead singer is from Toronto, I would’ve thought this was the one city where they could’ve played an arena with no problemo. Perhaps they’ll come back on another leg of the tour. At least I managed to get Depeche Mode tickets! Woo hoo.

Concerts galore
Today I bought tickets for the Depeche Mode concert in December. Very cool. I saw them about 7 years ago when they were touring for their greatest hits album, and that was a fun concert. They played all their old stuff and it was a big sing-a-long. Now they’re touring for their latest album that drops next week, and I like the new single, so I figured I’d go. Should be lots of fun.
Saturday tickets go on sale for the INXS concert in February. Normally I wouldn’t go see them, but as I never managed to go when Michael Hutchence was alive, I thought I’d go this time. Plus the new lead singer is a local boy from the T-dot, so I gotta go check it out.
