Survey Says?

So I took the Why do you Blog? survey, and it was interesting to do, mostly because I’ve never really thought about why I blog. So go and do the survey yourself, and you could win an iPod!

Intarsia at work

So I’m on to the intarsia section of my log cabin baby blanket, and it’s going quite well. I wasn’t sure how it would look, or if I would be able to do it successfully, so I am quite pleased to say it’s turning out nicely. I tried to take some close-up pictures of it for you last night, however my camera wouldn’t oblige, so you’re going to have to imagine a section of about 12 garter ridges, half in aubergine, half in light blue, merging in a wonderful column of intarsia style stitches.

I’m also procrastinating a bit from starting my centre square hat from Knitty.com, mostly because: a) I want to finish that log cabin blanket. I’m on the second-to-last set of logs, so I’d like to finish that off first, and b) I’m a little daunted by the double-yarn knitting the touque requires. Now, I know intellectually that double-yarn knitting isn’t difficult, I’m just nervous because I haven’t done a touque before; haven’t knit in the round before; and haven’t double-yarn knitted before. But I better get a move on if I want to actually wear the hat this year, as we’re almost into February! Granted, winter only really just arrived in T.O. a few weeks ago, so it appears I’ll have plenty o’ time, but still, you know what I’m getting at. Time’s a-wastin’.

Me too! Me too!

Since my sister did this quiz, I thought I’d try it too….here’s the results:

What Kind of Knitter Are You?

You appear to be a Knitting Apprentice. You’ve got the basics down pat and you might just be falling in love with this hobby. Big needles, funky yarns and simple shapes are the name of the game, but it doesn’t mean you don’t experiment a bit, here and there. As an apprentice, you probably fall back on other people to get you through those rough spots, and if you don’t know anyone who knits, you probably have a few books or online sources to tap. http://marniemaclean.com

Not surprising, I’m an apprentice! But that’s okay, I don’t profess to be anything else. :-)

Open Letter to Drivers

Dear Sir-who-honked-his-horn-at-me-while-waving-wildly-this-morning,

While I’m sure you are probably cranky this morning because you haven’t yet had your coffee, there is no need for such drama at 8:01am on a busy highway in downtown T.O. I was merging on to the highway, and was halfway past you car when you decided you wanted to get into my lane. (Note to readers: my lane lead to an off-ramp that is about 100m past the on-ramp I used.) I cannot see your blinker when I’m that far past you. So after I noticed you starting to creep over into my lane while I passed you, I sped up to get away from you. I did not want you to hit me. There was no need to lean on the horn after you whipped into the lane behind me. There was no need for you to gesticulate like that at me while you drove, because at this point you were already behind me. I am not a mind-reader. I did not know you wanted into my lane when I got on the highway because your blinker was not on. This on/off ramp is a dicey one to navigate, and as I do it every morning, I am familiar with the tricks used by other drivers, and I offer you these suggestions for next time:

  1. Drink a coffee before you get into the car (if that’s what makes you cranky).
  2. Try not to fight with your significant other/family/whatever before you get into the car. They are no longer with you so you shouldn’t direct your rage at other drivers who have no idea what you’re pissed about.
  3. Turn your blinker on right when you see the beginning of the on/off ramp so that drivers coming on will know you want to get over right away.
  4. Learn the rules of the highway: In this situation, I had the right of way. My only obligation was to let you in when it was save to do so, which again, in this case, was after I had passed you. Trying to bully me out of the lane wasn’t nice, nor was it legal.
  5. Try to drive more defensively rather than offensively (in both the aggressive sense and the “you have offended others” sense.)

Sincerely,

LoonieGirl :-)

More Jack please!

Last night’s episode of 24 was a tad boring, I must say. That’s because there wasn’t enough Jack in it. While it was fun to see him torture his weasely brother (who, it turns out, is the weasely dude from last season that was causing a lot of havoc), there wasn’t a hell of a lot that happened. Hopefully more things will explode next week. ;-)

Half of the fun of watching 24 is reading Dave Barry’s 24 blog, that he actually writes while watching the show. Just high-larious. Check it out here.
