They fixed it….again!

Just got my truck back from the dealership. Apparently it wasn’t the super-complicated thing they thought it was on Monday. Turns out it was “just” a wiring problem, which of course meant that the computer couldn’t tell them what was wrong! So they fixed it yesterday, let it sit all night to be sure (that was a good test for this problem), and it started no problemo this morning. I picked it back up at lunch time, and wow, was it ever strange to just put the key in the ignition and have it start up right away. In fact, it actually sounded better than it has in a long time starting up, even before I had this problem (which means this problem was probably one of those incremental issues, that had the engine going on the downslope ever so slowly). But now it’s fixed. Keep your fingers crossed for me tomorrow morning, as that will be the true test.

I know, I’ve been remiss

I know, don’t say it, I said I was going to post more because work had finall slowed down, and I haven’t been doing that. My apologies. The insanity from work has been replaced by the insanity with my truck. I’m on Week 3 of the SUV Saga, and frankly, I’m just tired of it all. I’ve been having starting problems with the truck, that initially the dealership thought was the starter motor, so they replaced that. And the truck still has the same problem. This time I took it to a different dealership, as Dealership #1 didn’t treat me nicely. I mean, I already feel at a disadvantage because I’m a woman, but then I just wasn’t feelin’ the love, so I went elsewhere. Dealership #2 is much better. While they’re still trying to solve the problem, at least they’re being helpful. They’re giving me rides to work when I drop off the car, offering to find out if I have an extended warranty (which I do), so that I can rent a car in the meantime (which I did), and generally they’re just way better. They’ve diagnosed two potential problems, however one of them could have a more complicated solution, so they’re waiting to hear back from the manufacturer so they know how to best proceed. All in all I’m much more pleased with this dealership, so I’m not as frustrated, even though it’s been 2.5 weeks and we still don’t know what the exact problem is. :-)

Snowballs & the Gorecal

This morning I woke up to this:

Okay, maybe not exactly that, but close enough. It’s only 0 C right now, which means big fluffy flakes, and enough moisture for it to be packing snow. Which means that every elementary school in the area is going to have a hard time keeping the kiddies in check. ;-) It’s one of those days where you get completely coated in snow as you walk, and then it melts as soon as you get inside anywhere (bus, subway, office, car), leaving you slightly damp, and you hair a little less poofy than it was when you left. Quite pretty, if a bit messy.

On another note, last night Al Gore was in town to give one of his talks on conservation and the environment. I find it funny that he’s been dubbed “the Gorecal” (as in oracle but with some Gore, haha), AND that scalpers were actually at the event last night trying to make some cash on his appearance! Isn’t that wild? And to think all of America thought he was super boring a few years ago.

The aliens have landed

My slip-stitch scarf survived my “attempt” at knitting from the other day, and there was a bit of sun when I got home from work, so here’s a photo of it so far:

The pattern kinda looks like little alien spaceships, almost like the ones from Space Invaders, one of my most favourite Atari video games. :-) I’ve even managed to fix my drunken knitting from last night, so all is well and it proceeds nicely. The first repetition I did had the dark yarn as the contrast one, and I realized I had meant to do it the other way around (dark with light alien ships), so I switched it around starting with the second rep. I kind of like the effect, so I’ll have to remember to switch it back around when I get to the end. Of course it makes for some fun pattern reading, as I have to remember that on the dark squares I have to use the light yarn, and the dark yarn on the light squares. And before you say anything, no, that isn’t why I mucked things up last night, although it certainly didn’t help. I was so tired I’d forgotten how to count, and then instead of stopping, I just kept going. Silly me.

Okay, time to go finish off some more Battlestar Galactica episodes.

Ciao!

Just put down the needles and step away from the scarf

I have had to put down my slip stitch scarf tonight, as I was messing up waaaaay too much. Kept having to recount stitches and rows, plus I think I lost count of my dark & light rows at the end of my last repetition, so that I started the new rep with the wrong one, and then I tried to correct it, and redid Row 1, and…well, you get the idea.

So I’ve put the needles down and stepped away from the scarf. I’ll be sure to take a picture of my progress so far when the sun comes out tomorrow or Thursday. :-)

My big project at work ended today too, so I will hopefully be posting more often than I have recently. I’ve been so tired from & stressed out by work that I haven’t really been too inspired to write, but here I am tonight. How have you all been? Been knitting up storms? Working through that stash? I look forward to catching up with y’all on my blog roll, hope things have been going well with you all.

Ciao!
