The Police still rock

Yes they do! I just got back from their first sold out concert in Toronto in over 25 years, and wow, was it ever good! I was quite impressed at how well the boys played, and even got along. I sang and danced for the whole show, which was quite long for a show these days, coming in at one hour and 45 minutes. Note bad at all. They played all the usual suspects, except for Synchronicity (Edit: silly me, they DID play Synchronicity II, however I was just too excited I didn’t even remember they did. :-) My bad.) , and even tossed in a few oldies as well. I was pleased to hear them open the show with Message in a Bottle, as that’s my favourite Police song.

We were sitting behind the stage, which was actually pretty good. We were pretty close to the boys, had great views of Sting’s butt, and laughed our heads off as Stewart tossed broken drum sticks at us. Plus we were right up against the wall of some of the private boxes, so we got to stand and dance for the whole show without worrying about bothering anyone behind us.

There were quite a few parents there with their teenagers, which was quite amusing to see. The crowd seemed to be fairly young though, like in the mid to late 20’s, surprisingly. I didn’t seem to notice as many old fogies like I have at other shows. In fact, I think I noticed more older people at Sting’s solo shows than I did tonight at the Police show.

No worries though, as the show was rockin’, and me & the girls danced and sang the night away.

If you have a chance to go see them, I highly recommend it!!

Rock music is fun

So I’m out of town this weekend visiting friends in Sarnia, and I’m having a great time. Currently there’s Bayfest going on here in town, a music festival that was not here when I grew up. (Oh yeah, forgot to mention that, Sarnia’s my hometown, or at least close enough to my hometown.) This year was a banner year, with Aerosmith, Nickelback, Toby Keith and Def Leppard. I didn’t go to the Aerosmith show, as I’m not a huge, huge fan, but the place I’m staying at is relatively close anyways to the park where the festival is, and because the wind was just right, I actually managed to hear most of the concert from the comfort of the lazy boy chair in the tv room. Not bad at all.

Tonight though, is a different story. We’re off to see Def Leppard. Yep, gonna go see the boys rock out, which should be lots of fun. I was a fan of theirs from back in the day, so hopefully they play all the old hits and no new ones. haha.

But tomorrow night is THE concert I have been waiting for. Yes, after years and now months of waiting, I get to see Sting, Stewart and Andy rock out in Toronto. Yep, I’m off to see the Police! woo hoo! They were the last band on my list of bands to see live, so I’m quite excited about that. I’ve seen Sting several times in concert in the Big Smoke, and he gives a good show, so I’m hoping that he & Stewart have patched it up enough to keep things going. I’ve heard mixed reactions from the rest of the tour, some people saying they messed around with the songs too much, others saying “they didn’t play song X, that’s my favourite!”, but you know what? I don’t really care. To be in the same venue as the boys, and hear them play, that’ll be good.

Why can’t I just knit this second sock?

I am having supreme problems knitting this second sock, El Segundo, and a I’ll tesll you why:

  1. I started and restarted knitting it about 5 times the other day until I stopped and just set it down.
  2. I e-mailed my sister about 6 times asking for her help.
  3. I had to call my sister long distance last night to get her to explain things to me again.
  4. I finally got the toe cap started last night, and so today I carried on knitting…until tonight when I noticed that I’m obviously switching the sides I’m knitting on, because the sock is actually showing right & wrong side stripes! Yes, it’s showing bizarre stripes.

I took some pictures of the zaniness that’s been happening, just to document things before I jump in the frog pond tomorrow. Sheesh.

Sorry for the blurriness in the photo, but I haven’t quite mastered the close-up zoom on my new camera. But you’ll see near the bottom that I’ve got about 7 or 8 rows of ws knitting sticking out. Oh, and when I took this photo, the dangly string from my cast on was on the outside! That’s how I’ve been noticing the flip-floppiness of my knitting. Here’s another photo that’s a bit more in focus:

I have no idea why the hell I’m flip flopping like this, because I didn’t think I was, and before you ask, sis-o-mine, yes, I was knitting on the needle furthest from me! *sigh* I’m going to jump in the pond tomorrow and recommence. Hopefully things go better, so wish me luck dear readers!

In the meantime, I’m going to start up a new project (*gasp* Jb’s going to have two projects going at the same time? Impressive. I don’t normally do that, but this sock is frustrating me so much that I need something simple to work on). I’m going to work on a ballband kitchen towel, using the ballband dishcloth pattern from the Mason Dixon Knitting book. So I’ll be showing photos shortly once I decide on the colours, so stay tuned for more info on that. Any suggestions on the colour? I don’t have a preference, I’m pretty much going to go on whatever I find in the store, but if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to leave a comment and let me know.

Cheap gas abounds here in Toronto

Wow, the price of gasoline really dropped off last night/this morning, with it hovering around the 97 cent mark, which we haven’t seen since March of this year. Of course some cynics are scoffing that “we shouldn’t be happy for 97 cents!”, but I for one, am happy, since I’m off on a road trip tomorrow, and I needed to fill up anyways. So I only spent $38 on a fill rather than $50! Much, much better. My bank account likes that idea.

Blogging for a living

In my current unemployed state (okay, I’m still being paid by my former employer as I got a sweet package, but still, I am not working for the cash), I’ve been exploring some options on how to make money with blogs. I know I don’t have a huge readership here (although I do welcome all your views and comments, so keep them coming!), so I thought I’d try to see if I could start up a blog that will help me earn some cash. I’ve been trying to come up with ideas for a new blog anyways, so why not see if I can make some cash, right? I’ll keep you posted on how my progress goes. In the meantime, if you’re looking to read up on where to get some help on how to do it, you can check out the Web Traffic Tips page of my blog and read up on it. Or, if you’d like to get it directly from the source, check out Yaro’s site here. Yaro’s a well-known Internet entrepreneur, and he likes helping people get their freelance start too. So check it out if you like.

Oh, and in case you thought I was all wrapped up in this Internet freelance writing stuff, I am still knitting, yes I am. I’m attempting to get El Segundo started so that he may join his brother, however I’m currently struggling with the start of the toe-up sock, so I have no progress photos to show you. I had to set down the yarn the other day though, because I started the sock three times in a row, with no success. By that point of course my fingers were killing me, so I had to stop from cramping. :-) My sister is being quite helpful to me right now, which is good. Thanks sis!

Phew, my apartment is quite stinky right now as my landlord has her hardwood floors sanded & refinished. (I live in the attic apartment of one of those renovated Victorian houses, and of course there are all sorts of cracks & crevices through which the stench is coming. ) Thankfully I’m heading out of town in a day or so, so I won’t have to smell it all week. (it should take almost the entire week to finish off.)
