The Berroco Scarf Makes an Appearance
After only two nights of knitting, and a half hour of binding off, the Berroco Sage scarf is finished. I was quite surprised that it only took me that long, but of course the pattern’s not very complex, so it’s not surprising. I may actually just make another scarf, but make it a tad longer, as I like them a bit longer. What do you think? Not bad, n’est-ce pas?
Funny thing is, while I was knitting this “simple” scarf, I actually made a mistake that’s quite an intriguing one. See here below, I’ve somehow twisted the row up:

Isn’t this wild? I do have a vague recollection of not pulling off a purl stitch completely off the needle, but I’m not entirely sure. At any rate, the twist happened at the exact mid-point in the row, so it looks quite cool. I’m pleased with it, regardless. And given how easy this scarf was to do up, I may just give this one away, and do up another for me…and another, and maybe another. If only I can find the Berroco Suede for less than $10 a skein, then I’ll be all set.

I’ve Got Gauge!
Yes, it’s true! I actually knitting up a swatch tonight for my new Berroco fall scarf, hell, it’s one of the first times I’ve ever knitted up a swatch to check gauge, and I’m quite pleased. I was a little nervous about the size 8 needles, as the yarn is rather thin & flat, but it turns out it’s okay. How okay? See for yourself:

What do y’all think?

Are you Superbad?
Went to see the movie Superbad last night, and I laughed pretty much the whole way through. It’s another “we’re graduating this year so we’ve gotta party tonight” type of movies, but it’s absolutely high-larious. Lots of hijinks by our two main protagonists as they try to procure some beer for a grad party they’ve finally been invited to. A couple of silly policemen, some beer in laundry tubs and some McLovin, and you’ve got yourself a good silly movie. I highly recommend this one if you’re looking for something silly and with no thought required. Definitely fits that bill, although it’s more intelligent than you’d think, so you’re not mired in bodily function jokes. I read a stat where the word ‘fuck’ was used over 189 times in the movie, with the main character of Seth saying it 85 total. And it’s true! I noticed that he seems to say that word a hell of a lot, a lot more than even I would (those of you who know me know that I tend to swear a lot, although ‘fuck’ isn’t my word of choice.) Another reason I liked this movie is that there were a boatload of Canadians it, which always pleases me. ![]()

Why I Hate Car Salesmen
Today I went out to look at some used cars. I’m debating getting rid of my truck early, and get a car that I’ll like better, so I thought I’d go take a look at what’s out there. I’ve already got a short list of cars that I like, I popped into the appropriate dealerships. The one was okay, no sales dudes came out to see me, but that’s okay, because everything was pretty explanatory. I popped into the other one, and sheesh, talk about annoying! The sales dude came out, which was fine, we chatted for a few minutes, and he gave me some info about the cars. I asked him if we could go take one of them out for a test drive, as I’d never driven one of those ones before. He started hemming and hawing, and said that “because they’re lease returned cars, we have to keep the kilometers down on them.” I looked at him a bit strange for a moment, because these were used cars that I wasn’t going to LEASE, but rather BUY, so what the hell was the problem with that? Then I realized what it was: he didn’t think I was going to buy right then, so he wasn’t even going to bother trying. Okay, I did tell him that I was looking for info because I still had a few months left on my lease (I didn’t tell him the right number of months, because I know this is one thing that turns them off.) But what an ass! I mean, he didn’t even offer me any brochures or even his card so that when I was ready, I’d give him a call. And what kind of an excuse is that to put me off from test driving a used car? I mean, while we were standing there, I saw three used cars from other dealerships going out for drives! It’s not like I was asking him if we could put 100 kms on it, I just literally wanted to go around the block. Sheesh.
I love car shopping, but I hate dealing with the salesmen. As a woman, I find they treat me differently, which is annoying, and then there’s always the fact that I always feel like they’re trying to screw me, you know? Ugh, next time I’m taking one of my male friends with me. I haven’t had to do that in a while, but I suspect I’m going to have to, as the dudes here in T.O. are little different. *sigh*
