The World Series Has Sunk to a New Low
After watching a few episodes of Numb3rs that I had recorded, I decided to do the new dishes. As it is Wednesday after 8pm, I tuned the tv to Fox, as that’s when I typically watch Bones. Of course it’s not on because of the stupid World Series. So I decided to do the dishes (yes, that’s how much I don’t like baseball…I would rather wash the dishes than watch.)
I start the dishes and vaguely hear the talking heads say they were going to start the game. The starting line-ups were announced, and then there was the anthem singing. Since it was the first game, I was curious to see if they’d get somebody famous to do it. So I stuck my head around the corner to take a peek…and almost dropped the sponge on the floor. The Backstreet Boys were singing the anthem! Can you believe that? I mean, it’s Game 1 of the frakking World Series, and MLB has the stupid Backstreet Boys singing the anthem. Sheesh. They already knew they weren’t going to get a lot of ratings with the Phillies playing the Rays, but to put BSB in there to sing? Sheesh.

The Good Weather Made Me Do It
Today we were up to 23 degrees Celsius…above zero! And the sun was shining, and there was a nice breeze and everything. So after work I just had to get off my duff and go out for a run. Which I did! It was only the second run of the season for me, but I managed to do the 5k loop in High Park in only 3 sets of 3 & 1s, which I thought was pretty good (that’s 3 minutes running, 1 minute walking.) The first time I did it in 4 sets, so that’s good.
The first time I went out I ran the loop clock-wise, and was surprised at all the funny looks I was getting from the runners going counter-clockwise. It took me almost a week to figure out why they might have been doing that: typically when you run on the road, good practice says you go against the flow of traffic so that the drivers of the cars see you. Going counter-clockwise in the Park means going against the flow of traffic driving thru. Now I get it.
So today I decided to go counter-clockwise, to “fit in” with the rest of the runners in the Park. Now would you know it, but today everyone was running clock-wise! I mean, come on, how is that possible that today they decided to go the other way? Come on. I thought it was funny.
The main reason why I’ve decided that all future runs on that loop will be clock-wise is that if I go counter, I hit the hill at the end of my run, which is not good. CallĀ me lazy, but I’d rather go downhill at the beginning of my run instead. ![]()

You’re getting more of me!
I’ve been meaning to start off another blog, this time about sports, seeing as most of my friends are sick of hearing about me go on and on about them. So I’m gonna go play with my virtual friends and see if they’re interested. hahaha. If you want to go read my rantings, go check out row39.wordpress.com.

Steamy Hotness
Phew, is it ever gettin’ steamy in here! Thank god I don’t have curly hair, otherwise it’d be a frizz-fest! For once summer is actually giving us the usual T.O. triple dose: heat, sun and humidity. It was supposed to do it yesterday too, but instead we got clouds & rain. I wasn’t in the city though, as I’d headed out to enjoy the beach at one of our provincial parks. It wasn’t super hot & sunny there either, but at least it wasn’t raining, and we could enjoy the beach a little more because there wasn’t a ton of sun. We were enjoying working on our tans without being broiled. Don’t worry, we both used tons of sunscreen, and we even had an umbrella too, although we didn’t really need it this time around. In fact, with the nice wind we had on the beach, I gave myself a nice exfoliation every time I put on the sunscreen because there was sand e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. haha. My feet are feeling nice and smooth, which is good since that saves me money on getting a pedicure. Did a little body surfing too, as the wind had whipped up the water quite a bit. My friend reminded me that waves on the lake sound entirely different from waves on the ocean, because they’re constant, there’s no dissipation of the sound at all, just a constant Shhhhh. Kind of nice though, almost lulled us both to sleep at one point.

happy Victoria Day everyone
Yes, it’s time for the unofficial start to the Canadian summer (at least in Ontario). Time to go open the cottage (if you have one) or plant the flowers in your garden (if you have one), or just kick back and relax for a long weekend. I will be doing the latter this weekend, as having just returned from my vacation in Italy, I don’t really want to go anywhere. Just sit around and do nothing. Okay, well, not exactly nothing, as I’ll be putting up my sunshade, and maybe even buying a new (cheap) patio set for the back deck.
On Victoria Day, we celebrate the birthday of Queen Victoria. Her birthday’s actually May 24, but by keeping the holiday on the third Monday in May, we’re close enough. Sometimes we’re even bang-on, but not this year. Other provinces in Canada celebrate the current monarch’s birthday on this weekend, while in Quebec they celebrate National Patriots Day. The point is, all Canadians get the third Monday of May off. ![]()
I may go out and watch some fireworks too on Sunday, or I just might recover from my first Ultimate Frisbee game of the season too. As usual, my ankles decided to protest somewhat during the game, so I’m a little gimpy today. Nothing serious of course, but just annoying. I will probably start wearing ankle protection during the whole game, in order to make sure I don’t do any serious damage. It seems we’ve got a pretty good team this year too, so once we finally learn each other’s names, I suspect we’ll be a force to be reckoned with. mwah ha ha.
