Woo, the Championship is Ours!

Yes, the Misplaced Modifiers pulled out the victory in the Trivia Championship game tonight. We lead the whole game, and while the Usual Suspects made a valiant effort to try and overtake us, Tim was masterful in that last challenge round question, and with a little help from the Axxe team (I forget their whole name), we were able to hold off the Suspects and take the championship. The trophy is now sitting here beside me, and while I don’t have any photos just yet, I know some people took some at the pub, so I’ll post them when I get them. Thankfully Melanie was kind enough to give me a ride home so that I didn’t have to lug the trophy home on the subway. Not that I mind all the questions, it’s just that the trophy’s heavy!

So congratulations to the Mods: Mel, Ralph, Tim, Bob, and missing member Melanie (I was subbing for her this season.) Well played. And congrats to Mel as well, as he won the Highest Scoring Player mug this year. Bravo!

Murphy was a trivia buff

Tonight I had confirmation that Mr. Murphy of the infamous Murphy’s Law was a trivia buff. I accompanied my friend Melanie to her trivia night tonight, and during the soccer villains category (one I probably would have done well at on paper, as I am a huge sports nut), Melanie decided she was too tired to continue, so I subbed in for her. The rules of the game stated that substitutions could only occur before the latest round’s category was revealed. After the soccer villains I stepped in for her…and wouldn’t you know it, the next category was Lord of the Rings!! Melanie is a HUGE LOTR fan, and I mean HUGE. She has a tattoo of a symbol from the book on her back for pete’s sake! Surprisingly even though I have read a boat-load of books, the LOTR series is one I haven’t been able to digest. I’ve tried several times, but just haven’t been able to get thru them. So Melanie was absolutely in agony watching from the sidelines while the round’s questions went by. Absolutely high-larious. :-)

Blast!

So I was all set to help my friend Mel bring home her new-to-her air hockey table home tomorrow, but I discovered today that I can’t! The table is too long to fit inside my SUV, and I can’t tie down the back door and let it hang out, so I thought of using the roof rack that I thought came with my truck. Only the roof rack I’ve got is just for decoration! I can only use it by attaching some non-included cross bars to the indicated spots on the “rails”. How lame is that?? I’ve got an SUV that I can’t even use like an SUV!! Utterly ridonkulous.

Weekend o’ Fun

What a strange weekend. I spent most of Saturday in the car, due to the closure of the Gardiner westbound because of an accident. Plus it was drizzling all day, so people forgot how to drive. I spent an hour & five minutes trying to get to the movie theatre (it normally takes me 10 minutes). Then I spent 20 minutes getting out of the parking lot, where crazy woman tried to cut in line while I was waiting patiently to turn left, and then she proceeded to honk/berate and flash me the double bird, all while her teenager was sitting next to her in the passenger seat. Sheesh. BUT, I managed to score some gas for the car at 79.9, so all was not completely lost.

Sunday was a splendiforous (sp?) day. I was Suzie Homemaker for the morning, making a roast in the slow cooker, putting together my new vacuum & then using it (tres cool too), then I washed the sheets, pounded on the featherbed to redistribute the feathers and headed out to the esthetician. I managed to be outside for the 90 minutes of sunshine we had yesterday too, which was a total score. THEN, while I walked over to my local coffee bar to get a maple latte (mmm, maple lattes…you ‘Mericans don’t know what you’re missing!), I noticed I happened to be right smack in front of, wait for it…ROMNI WOOLS! I have never been in there, so I took the opportunity and headed in.

Whoa, what an experience! I can definitely see how the Yarn Harlot goes in for a set of needles and comes out $500 lighter. There is just so much to see and do, that it’s impossible to know where to start. As I was just perusing, it was a bit overwhelming, so I decided to save a full on exploration for another day. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend you go. :-)

Improbable Nobels

I just read an interesting article about the Ig Nobels, awarded by Harvard University for excellence in the research of unusual and improbable things. Go check it out here. It’s definitely worth a laugh and a half.
