The Berroco Scarf Makes an Appearance

Scarf Berroco knittingAfter only two nights of knitting, and a half hour of binding off, the Berroco Sage scarf is finished. I was quite surprised that it only took me that long, but of course the pattern’s not very complex, so it’s not surprising. I may actually just make another scarf, but make it a tad longer, as I like them a bit longer. What do you think? Not bad, n’est-ce pas?

Funny thing is, while I was knitting this “simple” scarf, I actually made a mistake that’s quite an intriguing one. See here below, I’ve somehow twisted the row up:

Twisted Berroco scarf

Isn’t this wild? I do have a vague recollection of not pulling off a purl stitch completely off the needle, but I’m not entirely sure. At any rate, the twist happened at the exact mid-point in the row, so it looks quite cool. I’m pleased with it, regardless. And given how easy this scarf was to do up, I may just give this one away, and do up another for me…and another, and maybe another. If only I can find the Berroco Suede for less than $10 a skein, then I’ll be all set.

Knitting Pictures

Finally, I’m posting some pictures of my recent knitting. I’ve just been so busy lately that I haven’t had a chance to post them, but besides, the weather was so crappy that there was no point in taking any pictures. Since the weather has turned for the better, I took the opportunity to take some photos.

Here’s my slip stitch scarf, finally completed:

With a close-up:

Of course since the weather has finally turned warm, I won’t be needing the scarf, but at least I finished it. I’m quite pleased.

And now my latest folly, small squares! I’m knitting up small, stripy squares that will eventually be sewn together in a blanket of some sort. But for now they’re small enough that I won’t mind knitting them while the weather gets warmer. I did one big square, 50 stitches by 50 stitches, but I decided that was too big. So the others are 25 by 25, and lots of fun to knit up. I’m having fun deciding which colours to do when, and how they’d go together. I’m using up the micro-spun yarn left over from my friend’s crib blanket, and the squares are turning out nicely. Here they are, starting with the first big one:

Actual knitting

Yes, I managed to get some knitting done in between all that St. Patrick’s day celebrating, so here is a photo of the progress of my scarf as of today:
Scarf

The flip-flop is in there for scale. I’m quite enjoying this pattern, and should hopefully have it done in time to NOT wear it this year. :-) The weather’s supposed to be getting warmer, and with spring arriving tonight at 8:07pm EDT, there will be no need for it. (Yes, I’m saying this outloud so that the gods will hear me and obey.)

The aliens have landed

My slip-stitch scarf survived my “attempt” at knitting from the other day, and there was a bit of sun when I got home from work, so here’s a photo of it so far:

The pattern kinda looks like little alien spaceships, almost like the ones from Space Invaders, one of my most favourite Atari video games. :-) I’ve even managed to fix my drunken knitting from last night, so all is well and it proceeds nicely. The first repetition I did had the dark yarn as the contrast one, and I realized I had meant to do it the other way around (dark with light alien ships), so I switched it around starting with the second rep. I kind of like the effect, so I’ll have to remember to switch it back around when I get to the end. Of course it makes for some fun pattern reading, as I have to remember that on the dark squares I have to use the light yarn, and the dark yarn on the light squares. And before you say anything, no, that isn’t why I mucked things up last night, although it certainly didn’t help. I was so tired I’d forgotten how to count, and then instead of stopping, I just kept going. Silly me.

Okay, time to go finish off some more Battlestar Galactica episodes.

Ciao!

Just put down the needles and step away from the scarf

I have had to put down my slip stitch scarf tonight, as I was messing up waaaaay too much. Kept having to recount stitches and rows, plus I think I lost count of my dark & light rows at the end of my last repetition, so that I started the new rep with the wrong one, and then I tried to correct it, and redid Row 1, and…well, you get the idea.

So I’ve put the needles down and stepped away from the scarf. I’ll be sure to take a picture of my progress so far when the sun comes out tomorrow or Thursday. :-)

My big project at work ended today too, so I will hopefully be posting more often than I have recently. I’ve been so tired from & stressed out by work that I haven’t really been too inspired to write, but here I am tonight. How have you all been? Been knitting up storms? Working through that stash? I look forward to catching up with y’all on my blog roll, hope things have been going well with you all.

Ciao!
